Additional Information about Obtaining a Transcript
Please note: In addition to the FAQs below, the USMLE website includes FAQs on the USMLE. For information on the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®), please go to the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) website.
If you have passed only USMLE Steps and want to obtain your USMLE transcript or have it sent to a third party, you must contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®), the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), or the NBME. Which entity you contact depends on which Steps you have taken and where you want your transcript sent. If you want a transcript sent to a medical licensing authority at any time, contact the FSMB.
Once you register for or take Step 3, all requests for USMLE transcripts must be sent to the FSMB. If you have not yet registered for or taken Step 3 and you want a transcript sent to a third party other than a medical licensing authority, the request should be sent to the same entity that registered you for your last Step 1 or 2, either the ECFMG or the NBME.
You can now submit requests for USMLE transcripts online. Credit card payments are accepted. You can also check the status of your registration and document request history. Please click here to go to the Licensing Examination Services section of the NBME website.
Students or graduates of medical schools outside the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada must contact the ECFMG for details on how to request a transcript. The NBME does not have information on requesting USMLE transcripts from the ECFMG.
You can download an Examination and Board Action History Report (EBAHR) form from the FSMB website or contact FSMB:

Yes. If a third party such as a hospital credentials office simply needs verification that you have been certified as an NBME diplomate, the NBME can send a letter to that effect or verify your diplomate status by telephone. There is no fee for this service. These requests can now be submitted online. Please click here to go to the Licensing Examination Services section of the NBME website.
