About the APB Program
The Assessment of Professional Behaviors (APB) Program brings a standardized approach to the support of professionalism and related skills. The program:
- Addresses ACGME core competencies and LCME and Joint Commission requirements.
- Is designed to be formative, leading to individual insight and improvement.
- Provides multisource feedback on 23 observed behaviors. Observers may include peers, administrators, nurses, and others.
- Focuses on observable behaviors rather than attitudes or motivations.
The APB Program also strengthens attention to professional behaviors at the department and institutional levels. The APB Program:
- Can supplement or replace assessments already in use.
- Creates a common understanding of professional behaviors, language for discussing them, and comparison data within a program.
- Includes a survey instrument that is preloaded into your current residency management system ready for you to select when and to whom evaluations are assigned.
- Displays aggregated feedback in easy-to-read graphical reports that identify areas for improvement.
- Benefits from the scientific rigor and expertise in designing assessments that marks all NBME programs.
NBME is currently field-testing an APB Program for medical schools.
- The APB Program includes:
- A multisource feedback instrument extensively tested across specialties and clinical settings.
- A secure web-based survey administration and data collection process using your existing Advanced Informatics (E*Value™) or New Innovations, Inc. (Residency Management Suite) account.
- Individual and program level feedback reports, produced twice a year.
- Access to web-based training for program leaders, observers, and feedback providers.
- Implementation support from NBME’s team of APB specialists.
