Title: Editor
Unit:  Professional Services - Test Development (MCQ2)

 

Primary Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Edit examination items focusing on development of clinical vignettes. Review of items for test flaws and adherence to test development methodologies and provide suggestions to authors for substantive changes. Edit for grammar, punctuation, clarity, consistency of style, and item accuracy as well.
  • Serve as staff facilitator during test committee meetings and actively contribute to the process by using knowledge of content and test development methodology; routinely provide feedback to reviewers and edit on the spot while maintaining an accurate record of all committee decisions including exam-specific style issues.
  • Develop committee assignments and produce committee meeting drafts.
  • Oversee editorial production assistants who are involved in committee support.
  • Verify classification codes for test items.
  • Compose and review paper and pencil exams and/or assist with production of CBT exams. For USMLE, develop and produce derivative exams (e.g., subject tests, SPEX, SKOLAR).
Key Deliverables include, but not limited to:
  • Ensure correctness of exam items and correct item entry into UNTIL/XML.
  • Produce high-quality exams.
  • Meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ensure productive, well-run committee meetings with high-quality items and accurate record of editorial changes.
  • Participate in exam production (CBT and/or paper & pencil exams): item publishing, using ATA, building resource files.
  • Communicate effectively with team and outside clients and physicians.
  • Oversee production of work by assistant editors and EPAs.
  • Ensure accurate record of editorial changes made during committee meetings/IWWs.
  • Ensure assignments accurately reflect current pool analysis.
  • Support the values of the NBME.

Requirements include, but not limited to:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • More than 3 and up to 5 years experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills.
  • Excellent proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in use of computer applications (databases and word processing).
  • Advanced knowledge of test development procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and specific subject areas.
