The NBME announced in March 2008 that it had entered into a contractual agreement with the Council for the Advancement of Comprehensive Care (CACC) to develop a certification examination for qualified graduates of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs across the United States. The certification examination will assess the knowledge and skills necessary for nurse clinicians to provide safe and effective patient-centered comprehensive care. An article describing NBME services in development of this examination appeared in the spring/summer edition of NBME’s newsletter, the NBME Examiner, available here.
The NBME board of directors, the Executive Board, has supported NBME’s efforts to collaborate in the development of the DNP certification examination and has approved a white paper describing its rationale for providing these services. The paper, “NBME Development of a Certifying Examination for Doctors of Nursing Practice,” is available at the link below.
The NBME is closely monitoring recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control , the World Health Organization, and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health regarding H1N1 A influenza. All examination programs, test development and review committees, governance committees, and internal staff activities are operating normally. The NBME will follow the recommendations of public authorities as the situation evolves. Any modification of NBME activities will be posted as soon as possible to this website.
