Medicine Sub-Internship Examination
The NBME also collaborated with the CDIM to appoint a Hospital Sub-internship (sub-I) task force. This group developed two 75-item forms of a web-based sub-internship exam which is currently in a pilot phase. In addition to the traditional multiple choice question (MCQ) format, the exam includes sequential item formats that better assess how students use their clinical knowledge in problem solving. It is anticipated that multimedia items will be incorporated in the future. The pilot phase will continue until the NBME has at least 150 examinees.
There are no fees for administering the exam at this time.
The NBME also plans to introduce sub-internship examinations in Surgery and Pediatrics within the next two years.
