Musculoskeletal Subject examination
The Bone and Joint Decade is an independent, global nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the health-related quality of life for people affected by musculoskeletal disorders. NBME staff members collaborated with the 2002-2011 United States Bone and Joint Decade to develop a web-based musculoskeletal examination for the subject examination program.
The 75-item web-based musculoskeletal subject examination was pilot tested during the 2006-2007 academic year at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, the University of Iowa-Carver College of Medicine, and the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
In partnership with the NBME, the Penn State University School of Medicine has begun a multi-school research study evaluating musculoskeletal knowledge in medical students, nurses and physician assistants.
The examination is available for ordering and test administration by any school.
