PLAS Collaborators

The increased attention on periodic evaluation of practicing physicians makes it likely that state licensing authorities and other relevant stakeholders will be interested in available resources to evaluate various aspects of physician competence.

As a result, PLAS staff recently modified the research and development agenda and the operational orientation of PLAS to optimize the ability of the program to meet the assessment needs of practicing physicians in the next five to ten years.

Therefore, the NBME and the FSMB are phasing out delivery of PLAS assessment services at their offices in order to focus on developing collaborative relationships with regional assessment programs that have the capability to provide localized, performance-based assessments in conjunction with the standardized assessment tools developed through the PLAS.

Collaboration with local programs allows for a more comprehensive assessment that can be tailored to the individual physician’s practice and enables the physician to obtain assessment at a center that is more geographically convenient.

Since the majority of collaborators are associated with medical schools and training programs, education and remediation can also be incorporated as part of the assessment process:
