Mastery Series Self-Assessment Services

Self-Assessments for the Clinical Science Mastery Series are built to the same content specifications as the NBME clinical science subject examinations. This web-based series provides self-assessments for US and international medical students who want to assess their knowledge of the clinical sciences covered during a clerkship or medical education course. Self-assessments are available for each of the following:

  • Clinical Neurology
  • Medicine
  • Obstetrics/Gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Surgery

We plan to expand this series in the future to include other assessments, such as Ambulatory Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine.

Performance Feedback

Participants will receive a performance report and a score interpretation guide immediately after completing a self-assessment. The performance report includes a self-assessment score, the total number of incorrect items by content category and the ability to review the text of incorrectly answered items. The score interpretation guide includes a conversion table that a participant can use to "translate" the self-assessment score to an approximate score on the clinical science subject examination score scale.

Participants have the option to receive expanded feedback in addition to a performance profile. When participants acquire a self-assessment with expanded feedback, they receive a report which includes the number of items answered incorrectly by content category and the ability to review the text of incorrectly answered items. Correct answers are not provided as a part of the review. Correct answers are not provided as a part of the review.

When participants take multiple self-assessments, they receive longitudinal feedback which allows them to track their performance progress across all content areas. Longitudinal performance profiles are included for the six most recently completed exams.
