Nina W. Zhao, MD, MAEd, is an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and is Faculty Advisor on Clinical Assessments and Co-Chair of the Student Assessment Committee at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Her academic work focuses on improving clinical and educational assessment, with particular interests in workplace-based assessment, narrative feedback, validity and the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence to support formative assessment. As a surgeon-educator and assessment researcher, she is committed to designing assessment systems that are rigorous, meaningful and useful to learners, faculty and programs.
