Dana Murano, PhD

Director of Measurement Science

Dana Murano is the Director of Measurement Science within the Office of Research Strategy at NBME. Her research focuses on the development and assessment of noncognitive skills and their validity, efficacy and fairness in education.

She has extensive experience in building operational assessment systems of noncognitive skills for learners across K–12 and workforce settings. She has also collaborated with stakeholders in schools and districts across the country on grant-funded studies, efficacy studies and professional learning opportunities. She has published over 60 journal articles, book chapters and technical reports in outlets such as Review of Educational Research and Assessment.

She received her PhD in educational psychology with a specialization in learning, development and instruction from the City University of New York. Prior to joining NBME in 2026, she held various research scientist and leadership roles at ACT and was recognized as a CASEL Weissberg Scholar.
