MEDICAL STUDENT AND RESIDENT ENGAGEMENT

Learn how NBME is connecting and collaborating with students and residents

When it comes to high-stakes exams that serve as major milestones on the path to becoming a physician, medical school students and residents are invited to provide valuable input on decisions that may impact their future careers.

Every year, NBME and the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) program convene several committees to hear directly from students and residents within the medical education community with the goal of incorporating their feedback into the development of our current and future assessments, sharing information and answering pertinent questions, and keeping a direct line of communication open between NBME staff and the examinees we serve.

Learn more about student and resident participation in the committees below.

Medical Student Leader Roundtable

Responses provided during the roundtable meetings can then be shared by leaders with members from their respective organizations, keeping a direct line of communication open between NBME and the students who take our exams.

This collaboration has also led to the development of new learning resources, including the Unlocking Assessment video series.

Clinical Science Advisory Task Force

The Clinical Science Advisory Task Force plays a key role in informing NBME's work in developing and improving our clinical science assessments and currently includes one student representative. Members of this group provide input based on their knowledge of trends in medical education and within schools, clerkships, and residency programs.

Along with hearing directly from educators, the addition of the student perspective provides valuable insight into current expectations for learners on their journey through medical school.
