News NBME Educator Guides Now Available on Test Blueprinting and OSCE Topic Areas

NBME Educator Guides Now Available on Test Blueprinting and OSCE Topic Areas

February 22, 2019

(Updated April 15, 2021)

Health profession educators can now learn about assessment creation and delivery through additional NBME Educator Guides now available at NBME.org.

Previously, these lessons were available for purchase, but now are available for free as “companion” lessons to complement the NBME Item Writing Guide (previously referred to as the Gold Book).

The seven companion lessons cover topics not included in earlier versions and include content on test blueprinting as well as several clinical skills topic areas.

The NBME believes that medical school faculty should have access to high-quality professional development resources that address quality practices in assessment. To accurately assess student understanding, faculty training resources are very important, especially as it has become common practice for medical students to learn required content from many sources, including outside the classroom.

Commitment to quality assessment is fundamental to us, and we are excited to offer these additional lessons for free. In addition to the Item Writing Guide, these lessons will provide additional education and guidance in multiple areas of assessment. We are pleased to offer these lessons for use in medical education and assessment.
