NBME today announced the launch of INSIGHTSSM for institutions, a new platform that provides medical schools with direct access to NBME assessment data through the MyNBME® Services Portal. INSIGHTS brings assessment results together in a single, structured view, making it easier for educators to identify trends, support students and inform curriculum and program discussions.
The platform provides permission-based access to NBME assessment results, including Customized Assessment Services, Subject Exams and Self-Assessments. By bringing data together in one location and presenting it in a consistent format, INSIGHTS helps educators spend less time locating and organizing information and more time using it to support learners.
INSIGHTS is part of a connected platform for both learners and educators. While INSIGHTS® for students helps them better understand their performance and identify areas for improvement, INSIGHTS for institutions gives educators access to the information they need to provide more timely and informed support. Together, the platforms enable schools and students to engage with the trusted assessment data, creating opportunities for more meaningful coaching conversations and helping institutions partner with students as they progress through medical school and prepare for the USMLE® Step examinations.

Designed for advisors, learning specialists, assessment and evaluation directors, curriculum deans and academic leaders, INSIGHTS supports a range of institutional workflows.
- For advisors and coaches, the platform provides a student’s rolling 24-month assessment history, helping educators prepare for support conversations with access to recent performance data in a single location. Filters allow users to review results and identify students who may benefit from additional support.
- For assessment and evaluation professionals, INSIGHTS provides direct access to structured NBME assessment data across exam types. Users can filter, sort and export information to support program evaluation and performance monitoring.
- For curriculum leaders and academic affairs teams, INSIGHTS offers easier access to trusted NBME assessment information that can help inform curriculum discussions, program reviews and academic planning.
“It’s helped us spend less time finding, consolidating and organizing the data, and more time using it in meaningful ways to best support and enhance student learning and success,” said Jennifer Meka, PhD, associate dean for medical education and director of the Medical Education & Educational Research Institute (MEERI) at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Other educators have highlighted the platform’s ability to facilitate more data-informed student support conversations.
“I could go into a meeting with a student saying, ‘I can see that you passed all of your Subject Exams, but you’re within a couple of percentage points,’ and we could really have a much more data-driven conversation,” said Molly Johannessen, PhD, director of education and teaching and associate professor of physiology at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
INSIGHTS is automatically enabled for eligible schools, with access managed through each institution’s Executive Chief Proctor (ECP) or User Account Administrator (UAA). Educational resources, including user guides and tutorial videos are available through the MyNBME Services Portal.
