NBME Statement Against Racism

Posted June 3, 2020

As an organization, we condemn the brutal murder of George Floyd and the continuous systematic oppression and injustice faced by the Black community. We denounce racism in all forms - more needs to be done now. We stand in solidarity with the peaceful protestors across our country and in our home city of Philadelphia. We support our Black colleagues in our organization and the healthcare community, while knowing that we cannot begin to fully understand their lived experiences and how racism and discrimination has affected them.

We all have a role to play to better the environment and to move us closer to the ideals of equality we are striving for as a nation. As a testing organization, we pledge to continue to ensure our tests are free from bias with the recognition that more can be done. As we reexamine and retool our assessments in response to the pandemic and look to the future, we commit to keeping access and bias issues a key factor in the evolution of our offerings.

We pledge to listen and continue to learn more from those affected by racism, bigotry, violence, and social and gender inequalities and will strive to promote meaningful and lasting change in our organization as well as society at large.
