News New Examinee Interface for NBME® Self-Assessments

New Examinee Interface for NBME® Self-Assessments

October 1, 2025

Updated January 28, 2026

Now available, examinees have an updated interface for all NBME® Clinical Science Mastery Series (CSMS) Self Assessments. The change was made to better align the look and feel of the Self-Assessments with the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) Step exams. By the end of March, NBME plans to expand this updated interface to the Comprehensive Self-Assessments.

We implemented the following new features to enhance examinees’ testing experience:

  • Improved navigation for viewing items and answer explanations
  • Searchable lab values
  • Notes feature
  • Text resize – up to 200%
  • Image controls – invert color, contrast, zoom
  • Dark theme
  • Improved highlighting

To help examinees prepare for the updates, NBME offers a free Sample Assessment on the MyNBME® Examinee portal (select Purchase>Self-Assessments). This assessment includes a tutorial and 12 sample questions laid out in the new interface.

For any questions, please contact NBME at support@nbme.org
