The SEEF helps faculty in the early stages of their career to develop skills in medical education and assessment research.

The SEEF is designed to support faculty who are early in their medical education research career. Those interested in developing skills in medical education and assessment research, and working collaboratively to develop new approaches to medical education assessment are encouraged to apply.

This fellowship is a project-based faculty development program that has been established to:

Foster professional development and career development.
Promote assessment-focused scholarship about innovative approaches that will enhance the assessment of individuals across the continuum of medical education and in active independent practice.
Support a cohort of faculty who will work as small teams with NBME staff and faculty mentors to identify and develop questions and a research project that fall within one of the current cycle’s themes.

A successful fellowship outcome is a scholarly presentation or publication.

To achieve the Fellowship goals, eight (8) individuals will be selected to form two education and assessment-focused research cohorts that will be led by NBME and collaborating faculty mentors. Each member of the cohort will be expected to make meaningful contributions to the project team.

The Fellowship will train the cohort of faculty to use the rich information and subject matter expertise of the NBME; to operate effectively in an educational team; to communicate outcomes to a broad range of audiences; and to work as a community to conceptualize new approaches to assessment. Learning to work in this type of network is challenging and involves a willingness to collaborate and learn with and from a research group.

During open cycles, you can apply for the fellowship by submitting a Letter of Intent (LOI).

Faculty who are early in their medical education research career (rank of assistant professor) are encouraged to apply.

Follow the instructions for submitting your application and attach any required documents.
You may save your online application at any time and return to complete it later by scrolling to the bottom of the submission form and selecting “Save Draft.”
