Preliminary recommendations on USMLE score reporting from the convening organizations of the Invitational Conference on USMLE Scoring (InCUS) are now available online. From now until July 26, 2019 individuals and organizations interested in this United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) topic can review the recommendations, hear podcasts about InCUS, sign up for a webinar, and submit comments about the recommendations.

In April 2019, the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®) signed an agreement with representatives from the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) that was nearly a year in the making. Specifically, the HPCSA asked FSMB and NBME to help them deliver a high-quality written exam that can be used as a standardized assessment for those international graduates who wish to practice medicine in South Africa.

Richard Feinberg, PhD, and Dan Jurich, PhD, recently won the Educational Measurement Issues and Practices (EM:IP) cover graphic/data visualization competition for the fourth consecutive year with their entry Visualizing Hierarchical Score Inferences.

On March 4, 2019, NBME’s Director of Test Development Services (TDS) conducted a workshop for 20 participants at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). For the past 10 years ACOG has reached out to NBME for a spring workshop to train subject matter experts writing items for ACOG’s PROLOG (self-directed learning) and CREOG (residency in-training) assessments.

Three new practice exam forms (Forms 20, 21, and 22) of the Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment (CBSSA) will be available on MyNBME on March 25, 2019. Two additional new forms (Forms 23 and 24) will be released in late spring 2019. The performance feedback provided will remain the same. These updates are part of NBME’s annual operations to provide new content.
