NBME Psychometrician Recognized

Congratulations to Kimberly Swygert, PhD, Director of Research and Development, for being selected as a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The Admissions Committee and the Board of Trustees recently announced their decisions, and Dr. Swygert will be inducted via the College Night ceremony at the Mütter Museum on Friday, November 16.

New Score Scale for the Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Examination

Beginning with exam administrations on June 1, 2018, the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®) will report scores for the Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Examination as equated percent correct scores instead of scaled scores. The new equated percent correct score reflects an examinee's mastery of the content domain and can be used to compare and track school and examinee performances over time and across test administrations.

After a recent meeting in Brazil to discuss its ongoing collaboration activities with NBME, Hospital Sírio-Libanês (HSL) hosted a symposium with attendees from the student body and faculty of a number of medical schools, government officials, and other healthcare luminaries. The symposium, presented in Portuguese with a simultaneous English translator, provided insight into the NBME/HSL collaboration, the Qualifications in Medicine (QM) exams, and progress toward fostering a culture of assessment in Brazil.

Education grants awarded to organizations in Brazil and Mexico

The National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®) Latin America Grants Program awarded grants to three collaborations of Latin American medical schools for their proposals to enhance the quality of evaluation in health professions education in their respective regions. The Latin America Grants Committee selected the recipients in February after receiving more than a dozen proposals.
