In the videos below, NBME President and CEO Peter J. Katsufrakis, MD, MBA, and Chair of NBME’s Executive Board Alfred F. Tallia, MD, MPH, provide insight gained from the past year, which will help NBME move forward into a new era of medical education. These video addresses are featured in the March 2021 edition of NBME Impact: A Quarterly Report, a new publication with an aim to help you comprehensively learn about NBME’s responses to the needs of the medical education community, ongoing activities and new initiatives.

  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts including in the representation of NBME and USMLE test development committee compositions (which can also you find in the committee directory for NBME and the directory for USMLE); the formation of an internal DEI Advisory Council; a completed 21-day DEI Educational Challenge; and our commitment to fair assessment scoring practices.
  • Ongoing practices that emerged in response to COVID-19 such as web-conferencing with remote proctoring of several NBME exams and regional and event testing for USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK).
  • How NBME is redesigning and refocusing assessment by piloting short-answer questions (SAQ) in assessments and introduced a competency-based assessment unit (CBA).
